Insect behaviour researcher, mostly working with ants lately. Looking at learning, information use, and basically trying to understand what they understand. And a hobbit in my free time.

Excited to have our new paper published in Insectes Sociaux! Lasius niger ants discovering a pre-existing trail do not modify their trail-following behaviour with distance from the nest or motivation. The straightness of their trajectories was affected by how far they had walked before though! 🐜
Look at this 'roll into a package ball' behaviour by some Formica being carried between 2 of their nests. I love spring 😎
Have you ever wished you were a small insect, just so you could sleep in a flower? Now you do ;) #sleep #bee #flower
Social insect and cognition postdocs, check these positions in Berlin, with super nice supervisor Tomer! :)
🚨New paper🐜 For the same duration of stimulus, Lasius niger ants learn better from a positive (sugar water) than a negative (falling into water) experience. For appetitive side learning, a single trial leads to a memory of a couple of hours.

tomerczaczkes.bsky.social et al. show that workers follow pheromone trails with fidelity, regardless of their foraging context 🐜
