Plant biologist interested on the evolution of plant-microbe interactions, among many other things. PI of the MoRE lab at CRAG (Barcelona,Spain), opinions are my own.

Some time ago, we found that the non-vascular Marchantia polymorpha was triggering RNAi-mediated defenses that are confine to the vasculature in vascular plants www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Central Eukaryotic defense components, including plant NLRs, might have been domesticated after HGT from bacteria!
Very excited to share our latest results on the evolution of plant antiviral defense at the meeting from @scb.iec.cat Societat Catalana de Immunologia. Come to discuss our findings @cragenomica.bsky.social if you are around on Thursday!
I am thrilled to share our last work on the evolution of plant antiviral immunity @cragenomica.bsky.social

Wait no longer to apply!, exciting science, world-class facilities and a great supervisor!
By comparing cell-type specific transcriptomes from both non-vascular and vascular plants, we found that the basal expression of RNAi components have been re-patterned to the vasculature in Arabidopsis plants. Developmental diversification impacting on immune diversification
Hence, plant immunity does not only evolve through expansion/contraction, and specialization of immune components, but also by re-patterning of their expression!. Additionally, contrasting levels of basal expression endows cells with differential reactivity to pathogen insults!
I think it should be mandatory that the submission date and the whole time frame of the papers from submission to acceptance is clearly disclosed in all manuscripts
Very excited to be tomorrow @mpi-mp-potsdam.bsky.social telling our latest work at the Molecular Reprogramming and Evolution (MoRE) lab @cragenomica.bsky.social on the co-evolution of plant development and Immunity, come to join us tto discuss about it if you happen to be around!
