There is a wonderfully funny novel called "Gospel" by Wilton Barnhardt whose premise is the race to find a supposed gospel of Mathias. I highly recommend it.

It took me until today to learn that Saint Mathias (he who replaced Judas) had the wackiest adventures. Also Andreas, if the many many many manuscripts are to be believed (which they most assuredly should not).
