We announced Wordbound last year as a mixed reality puzzle game for Meta Quest 3, where players use their real hands to squish words into objects. We wanted to translate the game to flatscreen and mouse controls without losing the magic of these core interactions... 🧵
We tuned the physics interactions so that 3D objects could still collide with each other while sticking to the plane, resulting in some delightfully chaotic moments
After a lot of experimentation and fine tuning, the game finally feels at home on a flat screen. While the mixed reality version lets you freely move objects in 3D space, the flatscreen version constrains object movement to a 2D plane, making the mouse controls simpler and more intuitive
As you pull an object apart, the vertical position of the mouse relative to it controls the "twist". The mesh deformation is achieved using an amazing free Unity plugin called Deform assetstore.unity.com/packages/too...

The 3D objects are downloaded at runtime using Poly Pizza, a free library of user-generated models poly.pizza They have a nice, simple API for Unity!
