Ruth Shellhorn thoughtfully planned each land choosing plants and flowers to complement (and even enhance) the surroundings / attractions or the original intent for the space.
She had a "humble attitude about landscape architect design" Don't impose your ideas, but respect the land around you.
Impressed by her work in SoCal, Walt Disney asked her to work on Disneyland in March, 1955. She Joined Jack and Bill Evans. Notice that the orig. design did not keep guests in mind
Ruth Shellhorn was the one responsible for designing the floral Mickey seen at the Disneyland Train Station.
Walt Disney appreciated her structured design that kept guests in mind. It provided clear pedestrian pathways and her choice of plants and trees provided a variety of colors and textures to "delight" the people who saw it.
Currently on a @wdfmuseum.bsky.social virtual talk about Ruth Shellhorn - Disneyland's original Landscape Architect
Ruth had a great influence on the look and feel for Main Street USA - down to the color of the pavement. And was the one who told Walt Disney that putting a large band stand in Town Square would be a mistake. It would compromise the sightline to the Castle.
Speaking of Disney Resort buses.
Can I share with you the cool buses they have at #TokyoDisney? This was one of the Resort Cruisers we took from the Disney Ambassador Hotel to #TokyoDisneyland
I did not realize they have so many variations. We rode in at least three different styles.
A tale of two curries I had at #TokyoDisneyland.
I thought the Hungry Bear Curry with rice (Chicken & Beef) was tastier than the Center Street Coffeehouse, Baymax Plate (Chicken and Beef Stroganoff).
Obviously, the Baymax one looked cooler. Although, that Mickey egg yolk thing is also pretty neat.
Your battery getting low at #TokyoDisney Resort? Rent a battery! Like Fuel-Rods, but not really. Download the ChargeSPOT (3rd-party) app to rent an external battery pack. Available to do inside or outside Tokyo Disney Resort (really all over SE Asia).
It is rented per hour vs a flat fee.
Why do the Japanese editions of the Disney books seem so much cooler than what the versions we see in the US?
