Before the 1970s, neither Repubs nor Evangelicals particularly cared about abortion. They shrugged it off as an issue for the Catholic Church. Reagan signed an abortion access law in the 1960s, and the Southern Baptist Convention passed a resolution calling to legalize abortion in 1971. /2
