I was getting ready for an event, about to attend my first-ever Contributor Day (which, yes, felt a little absurd given how many WordCamps I'd been to by that point). To fill the time before things kicked off, I sat down and did a quick little episode talking about our changelog and why I was doing one in the first place.
So many of us are in a evolving relationship between freedom, convenience, and open source software in the world shaped by AI. The promise of freedom which is central to the open web and open source movements has to be continually weighed against the growing demand for convenience and simplicity. While open source software offers transparency and user control, achieving real freedom can be complicated.
