This is exactly the kind of doomerism and pessimism that big tech is feeding, driving and relying on, to sell us their planet eating monster gAI. They want you to discount your originality; your creativity, your uniqueness; to think that some AI’s thoughtless ‘output’ will always be better.
Still thinking about this show. Last night I slotted it into the top 10 of my life but it might actually make top 5. Thinking about the trans pride cowboy hats and older gay couple who got up to twirl each other around during Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other 🥲
Other contenders for top 5 are Florence at the Anthem in DC in 2018 and Counting Crows at the Greek in LA a couple years after my dad died where I was seated way the fuck up on the benches and someone came up and asked if any of us were solo and gave me his spare pit ticket
Andrew Bird at 9:30 Club for Break It Yourself era where I was up at the barrier. I’ll never have gen admission stamina again in my life but I have fond memories of doing 9:30 Club solo and with friends in my teens and early 20’s
Contenders for worst show experiences sadly include Ethel Cain at Eventim Apollo in London where I had the worst vertigo + they had to stop 3 or 4 times for medical emergencies on the floor from the heat/strobing and Sigur Ros at Hollywood Bowl where the audio was so bad for some reason
Five Summer Outfits That Will Make You Look Like A Sexy Little Reflecting Pool
Between Orville Peck for Pride and Romeo & Juliet in London I’m starting to feel that the biggest balm for the disconnection/isolation of AI dystopia is live performance in front of an engaged audience
