i have a stupid hypothesis ive been pondering btw which is that phase shift is completely inaudible and that what we hear is just timing shifts in the magnitude envelopes. no, i dont have any data to back that up and have done 0 research into whether this has been studied.
i still think there is some merit to this distinction, but apparently there is more nuance (🤮) required
