I think the root of this, and almost all other problems the government has, is that they don't believe that the public can be persuaded. A tax rise to pay for national security in a changing world should be an easy argument to make but the PM seems uninterested in even trying
It is quite strange to listen to political coverage currently, even from mainstream sources, and remember that net migration has quartered since its peak, and is likely to fall to Cameron's tens of thousands target next year and this has made no difference to the discourse.
