In our "Meet the first author" series we spoke with Lisa Martina and Michal Malszycki about their recent paper, their fascination with nuclear speckles, and how an unexpected discovery helped them gain insight into the functions of speckles. www.molgen.mpg.de/news-2026-mt...

Today, it was Lisa's turn to defend her PhD thesis and she did an absolutely fantastic job 😍 Especially going into full structure of the RNA Pol2 catalytic core and explaining the mutants. It was an outstanding discussion! I am really proud of her performance today 🥹
Our super star MSc student Sarah just passed her defense with flying colors (sehr gut, 1.0). I'm proud of you Sarah 🤩
It was my pleasure to present our work and attend career event at the 7th national molecular biology and genetics meeting organized by the students of Iztech. The future of Turkish molecular biology community is bright 🤩
Many thanks to the committee members; Florian Heyd, Daniel Schubert, Stephan Sigrist.
Proud PI moment with @malszycki.bsky.social today. Michal got his paper out last week, defended the thesis today and will be starting his postdoc in 2 weeks🔥
The research highlight of our recent work on nuclear speckles is online. The photo choice is eggcellent. Happy Easter! 🌸🐰🥚
