An "I Am Legend" Who: we immerse ourselves in Dalek society, understand them as sympathetic, survivors of a genocidal war, permanently disabled & reliant on technology to live, but cultured, sensitive creatures: and the Doctor as a bogeyman predator lurking in the darkness ready to strike.

I don't think this is particularly wild, it's just a good idea.
Uh, a wild one? The Doctor regenerates as a sperm and then has to impregnante a Dalek. There you go.
OK a bit unfair of me to call something an adult version of (say) Michael Crichton.
The Doctor splits into two selves while regenerating, the two Doctors then spend several seasons trying to catch and kill the other.
Books like Daniel Kraus' WHALEFALL and ANGEL DOWN, Dan Chaon's ONE OF US, even BUTCHER OF NAZARETH feel like adult versions of the first books I fell in love with as a teen, bighearted thrillers, sci-fi, and horror, I just want more and more of these things.
Tbh I nailed the assignment.
I'm trying to make sense of it, this Quanta piece from a few years ago is helpful for the "unfolding the billiard path" piece: www.quantamagazine.org/the-mysterio...

The surprisingly subtle geometry of a familiar game shows how quickly math gets complicated.
