“Women Without Men,” by Shahrnush Parsipur caught my eye last week and was excited since it’s been long listed for the Booker Prize. I liked the first half off the book and it was promising however, the end of the story was SO disappointing at the end. Defeats the entire purpose of the title. 2/5

Love Greek mythology, so was excited to read “Mythos” by Stephen Fry. This was the most boring, pretentious, self-indulgent read of the year. 1/5

Everything Is Not Enough by Lola Akinmade Aderkstrom. Didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book and felt the endings were rushed. The 3 male protagonists were annoying and awful in their own away. Disappointing considering I really enjoyed the first book. 2/5

Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes was gifted to me by a lovely Daisy (thank you for feeding my reading habit). Loved how Algernon mirrored Charlie, the main character + it was interesting seeing the experiment unfold. However, I thought Charlie was an absolute pr*ck. 3.5/5

Read the 3rd and final instalment “The Voyage Home,” by Pat Barker. Didn’t enjoy it as much as the 1st 2 books but liked the fact it was told from a different character’s POV. All I can say is women had it hard during this period (when has it ever been easy? 😅) 3.5/5

"In Every Mirror She's Black" by Lola Akinmade Akerstrom was gifted to me by family. I wasn't a big fan of how the black women seemed to always be victims! However, I enjoyed the themes of racism, fetishisation + cultural differences (story is set in Sweden 🇸🇪). 3.5/5

Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall has been on my to-read list since it was published! There were some interesting talking points but nothing I hadn't read before in other feminist readings/articles. 3/5.

Back to my Greek Mythology, I read “The Women of Troy,” by Pat Barker. This is the 2nd book in the instalment and felt it was more of a “filler” book gearing up for the 3rd and final instalment. Regardless, I still enjoyed it and it was an easy read. 4/5.

Finally finished “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow,” by Gabrielle Zevin. Not a fan of literary fiction or modern romance but the book started off fine. I became impatient towards the end as I felt it dragged. Honestly, it could’ve have 100 less pages. 3/5

‪At first I wasn’t sure about “Circe” by Madeline Miller. Towards the end of the story, I’d fallen in love with the characters, especially Circe herself. The ending and the last paragraph were just so sweet. My heart aches 🥹. 5/5

Still on my Greek Mythology high, I decided to read Galatea by Madeline Miller. A “very” short read of 100 pages. The husband was an arsehole and the wife a bit weird but wish there were more pages! 3/5

I'm not a fan of TikTok book recommendations but The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller was heart wrenching, passionate + nearly made me weep 😭. It was a beautiful trip reading this book + sad that I've finished the book. 5/5
