In the review, we explore 2 key themes: - The collective pool of viral genomic elements delivered to a given cell shape the infection phenotype of that cell. - How viral genetic variants interact with each other within and between cells can significantly affect the evolution of viral populations.
Viral populations contain huge numbers of genetic and structural variants. How these variants interact with each other can influence population phenotypes in profound ways. This review attempts to summarize what is known about these understudied facets of virus biology and why we should care.
Welcome to the Fascist States of America, where the EiC of a leading journal is forcibly removed by police for passing out his own editorial at the annual meeting of the field’s association…because it’s “too political” (read: it calls on scientists to speak out & stand up). We are here. This is it.
