Opinion: NZ’s laws are outdated and don’t reflect the range of micromobility devices used today. A high profile accident may result in a knee-jerk law change that would affect everyone on an e-bike.

Auckland Transport proposes pedestrian safety improvements around Newton Central School. They need to be more ambitious 🤔

In a mixed bag of success and disappointment, Auckland Transport will still build the Rā Hihi cycleway but it will now be bidirectional to make space for an extra general traffic lane.

⚠️ Take extra care cycling around the Karanga-a-Hape Station streets at night Mon-Wed this week 👀🌙
The line markings for the cycle lanes are being painted (yay!) and bikes will be redirected onto the road.
Affects Lower Mercury Lane, Canada St and East St 8pm-5am.
Construction has begun on the Carrington Road Improvement Project ✨
Watch out for:
⚠️ NW Path raised crossing is moving.
⚠️ Sharing the lane with cars (speed limit is 30 kmh).
⚠️ Very bumpy surface - not suitable for thin tyres.
Our advice: if you can take a different route, do that.

⚠️ Take extra care cycling on Upper Queen Street 👀
The cycle lane separators have been removed from Upper Queen Street in preparation for asphalt resurfacing. The separators will be back once the resurfacing is complete.
Cars are mistakenly parking where the bike lane should be. Go carefully.
When will the Unitec/Carrington cycleway open?
It's tantalising. We can see it sitting there ready to ride but not yet open.
We were recently interviewed by Stuff on this. We share our comments in full 👇

👀 Riders on the NW Shared Path who cross Carrington Road, your crossing has moved.
Turn north (toward Pt Chev peninsula) instead of the usual south (toward Mt Albert) to cross Carrington Road at the temporary crossing.
Watch out for directions and signage telling you where to cross - it may change.
