"Whenever his back has been against the wall, Drake has mastered the ability to generate hits that make listeners forget what battles he’s lost, or what embarrassing moments were brought to light," writes @earlhopkins.bsky.social. "And no group has had more selective amnesia than Drake fans."
It's a PLEASURE to edit @gavia.bsky.social analyzing these eps. A deconstruction of the initial Lestat/Gabriella dynamic and sex-as-transaction themes that are so fundamental to the show, plus bits that made me laugh out loud (Justin Kirk "dazzle[s] us once again with his indecipherable accent"):
One of my fav little details in this ep is the presence of Magritte's painting The Lovers, calling back to Lestat's letter to Louis in season 2: "A veil will now forever separate our union. But it is a thin veil… and I am always on the other side, face pressed up against your longing."
In our latest, @earlhopkins.bsky.social goes deep on Drake's fandom and what his fans expect from him—whether it's addressing claims of cultural appropriation, or taking a stand on political issues.

I'm so pleased we were able to publish this piece: @earlhopkins.bsky.social did such a great job blending criticism, cultural reporting, and really getting at the heart of how fans engage with both Drake's music and that cultural context. A very interesting read for fans and non-fans alike!

In episode 1, “Detroit,” Sam Reid reintroduces Lestat as a messy, self-destructive rock star—and proves he was born to play this role.

My first recap for The Vampire Lestat is out now!
Very excited to dig deep into this show over the next seven weeks, starting out with some thoughts on the drastic POV shift, Lestat's celebrity persona as an old-school rock star, and that *incredible* pair of intro and outro scenes.

Iceman broke records—and did little to quell ongoing criticisms of the artist. Where does that leave his fandom?
