Some footage does exist. I downloaded two clips from (I think) an old Sega website ages ago. There were also some images of the then-president of Nintendo of America, Tatsumi Kimishima, welcoming Sonic.

Kazuyuki Kurashima has just shared some concept drawings for Super Mario RPG.
Apparently an idea was kicked around for Mario having different transformations and powers, like Circus Mario, Bat Mario, Octopus Mario, and Bug Mario!

In 2000, IGN Pocket posted a mysterious image, allegedly from "a Japanese correspondent", showing what appeared to be a Yoshi game or tech demo for GBA.
