I did DofE (not willingly) and was sent off on overnight camping trips at 15 and 16.
And I'm old - so we didn't have phones.

An example of this: the twins (16) are (separately) going camping next month with friends in Dartmoor and Cumbria.
A lot of people seem shocked we're letting them do that without adult supervision.

I'm sorry but I am just regularly very disturbed by how some adults talk about young people over the age of 16. (Or as they are in fact better known 'other adults'.)
