I also want to remind y’all that the narrative about people in Galveston not knowing about Emancipation is inaccurate. Enslaved people had ways of communicating news. The issue was that they couldn’t do much with that piece of info at scale until it was enforced by General Granger. #Juneteenth

#Juneteenth is a good time to remember that enslaved people did not passively wait around for proclamations. They resisted in many ways.
