@detentionwatchnetwork.org is continuing to work with local communities to fight the warehouses (toolkit here: bit.ly/noicewarehouse) and stop expansion of detention in more traditional facilities such as former prisons. Despite the billions in funding, there is a lot we can still do to stop them.
In Surprise, AZ where ICE is still moving ahead with plans despite the a lawsuit filed by the AG, local residents are trying to disincorporate the city in order to block the warehouse: azmirror.com/2026/06/17/f...
In Texas, ICE is repackaging the plan for the warehouse in Socorro for offices, training space and some detention. The scale might be reduced but they are moving ahead: www.elpasotimes.com/story/news/i...
This is an incredible victory for the local communities, researchers, litigators, and longstanding anti-detention organizers in these states that have been working tirelessly to stop these sites from going online. But warehouse expansion continues in AZ, TX, and elsewhere. The fight is far from over
Hundreds of people at Delaney Hall have been on hunger strike to protest the conditions they are subjected to as they presumably await adjudication--and reporters seeking to shed light on the situation have been met with pepper spray and rubber bullets.
