What is happening to science is not simply a lull or downward trend in funding. It is so much worse than that.
Insane self-blinding of the US. They are throwing away their investment in the ocean observation system and the benefits it provides.
The only explanation I can think of: they don’t want the people to know what their fossil emissions are doing to our oceans.
