Also, not all of us are like this! Some of us have a pathological need to be liked and will randomly wake up, drenched in sweat, stressing about that one slightly negative comment on an evaluation from 2021. Students can (and should) abuse these character flaws.

If you are a professor students have all sorts of reactions to you, ranging from passionate dislike, through intense crushes, utter indifference, idolising admiration, and into contemptuous disdain. What I think students rarely appreciate though is how asymmetric this is.
