I struggle with picking association songs for characters, pairings, or fandoms. It's easier for me to daydream to instrumentals. Although there are exceptions, they are rare :/
Occasionally I redraw other artists paintings adapting them to my own ideas or favorite characters. I admire the view, sigh and then hide them away in a drawer. No one is ever supposed to see this; its just practice and mindless masturbation but it's still not my.
