Freepoint Eco-Systems’ “chemical recycling” facility in Hebron, Ohio promised a “cleaner tomorrow” — but delivered malfunctions and toxic emissions for a dirtier today. Despite all this, Big Plastic continues to push “chemical recycling” as the solution to our plastic crisis. #plastic
Thank you to the incredible advocates who fought tenaciously for the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act in Albany. While we are disappointed that it did not come up for a floor vote in the Legislature, we loved working with so many of you, and “We’ll be back.”
Despite repeated promises to the contrary, “chemical recycling” is doing virtually nothing to address the enormous — and rapidly growing — plastics crisis. Instead, it’s setting communities up to deal with job losses, major environmental burdens, and wasted public subsidies.
