This is so important. Academic history sustains so many affiliated sectors as well as providing training in the discipline of independent thought and analysis, on which our civil service and all branches of government depend.

It must be emphasized that we need powerful, robust ACADEMIC history IN universities to sustain history OUTSIDE universities. If we can’t employ people in higher ed to train future generations of public historians, we will not have future generations of public historians. 🗃️
