(6/6) Similarities in these countries extend beyond their youth-led revolutions and the elections that followed as unfulfilled promises and external shocks threaten to revive the politics of protest.
(4/6) Another area of convergence is relations with #India. All governments seek a reset in relations with New Delhi. But India’s regional prominence is a double-edged sword. New Delhi is a crucial source of humanitarian aid, development assistance and infrastructure investment.
(5/6) However, India's overwhelming presence also breeds mistrust with fears of neighbouring states getting swept up in its internal politics. India is not immune to the Gen Z pressures, as seen with the Tamil Nadu election and ‘Cockroach Janata Party’. This is a wildcard in India’s politics.
(3/6) Exacerbating this is the ongoing #IranWar. All three countries have been severely impacted by inflationary pressures, fuel rationing and limited fiscal space to withstand the shocks of the conflict. These economic strains have cut short any post-election honeymoon period.
(2/6) The inexperience of governments has led to a series of policy missteps. Strong mandates do not guarantee stability, particularly if governments do not address broader societal challenges as all three countries have faced prolonged periods of violence and instability.
(1/6) While a climate of hope persists – as governments in all three countries have secured strong parliamentary majorities – there is also a sense that governments are squandering their goodwill by being unable or unwilling to implement required reforms.

New governments in Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka have popular mandates for change. But governance is proving challenging.
