Surely deliberative democracy has something to say about the quality (or lack thereof) of much contemporary British journalism?
Not a bit of it. For the most part, DD gave up on the public sphere a long time ago.
This is an important point. Yet beyond feelings of humiliation and betrayal, it seems that some people desire to be offended or enraged. For them, misinformation and disinformation might be purely instrumental -- a sort of fuel to keep the fire burning.
