I do think a lot of English-based analysis of what happened in Northern Ireland last night is missing the specifically loyalist aspect of the violence. These are groups with a long history of violently driving out "outsiders", turning their sights on a new vulnerable minority.
there were already many reasons to do this but Elon Musk actively encouraging racist violence in Belfast should be the final straw for every UK government institution to stop doing business - including being on X - with him in any way, and for him to be barred from entry to the country.
This is only tangentially related to Reform and Restore speeches. Northern Irish politics are not necessarily English politics. Rather this is loyalist groups exploiting rising anti-immigration sentiment to re-assert their own authority.
This is what a pogrom looks like: men in masks coming to drive you from your home. This is a collective failure of our political and media class because we did not have the courage to say no, and because too many were allowed to embrace this without shame
