These are undeniable merits of GDC and why it’s also sad to see people who can’t afford it or are physically incapable of doing so (hi awesome immunocompromised creators! ILU! I wear a mask!) locked out of the event.

There's many reasons some people *need* to go to GDC. Prior commitments, non-insured flights, sometimes it's the last chance for what could be a life-changing meeting for individuals or entire companies.
No one redirects a *fraction* of the energy focused on hating the event, on promoting options.
