The practical difference between "nice" and "kind" is that "nice" will not tell you if you are being a dick, period. "Nice" doesn't want to offend you

I think sometimes you have to, if you're doing the job right. But I don't do it indiscriminately. Sometimes a "fluff" scene is important to character growth, subplot points, etc. Sometimes you can lose those, but sometimes that detracts from the impact
