I ended up pulling the trigger on a new build after my GPU (RX480, released June(?) 2016) decided to return to the great fab in the sky. It was time for the rest of the build to to anyways.
Microcenter is still price competitive if you're a tinkerer! Though agreed, even WSL doesn't feel great...
