When I first heard of the plan to build a 3 gigawatt solar installation in Australia’s Northern Territory it sounded mad, but not bad. Now of course, the vile billionaires club have come up with a truly mad bad alternative.
If you build three gigawatts of solar in the desert, and then use all of that to power the melting of computer chips to run GenAI (instead of helping to push fossil fuels out of the system through an undersea cable to Asia), what's the benefit to climate, or biodiversity or environment?
