On April 18, 1975, at the Grand Ballroom of the New York Hilton Hotel, John Lennon performed three songs: “Slippin’ and Slidin’” (a Little Richard cover), “Stand by Me” (Ben E. King’s classic), and “Imagine.” It was his final public performance. Here’s a clip from it.
Louis Jordan was a musical genius, I have no qualms about saying that. He perfected a jazzy, riff-oriented dance-blues sound that anticipated rhythm-and-blues and rock-and-roll.
B.B. King, Ray Charles, James Brown, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry all claimed him as an influence.
