I've the receipts to prove all this. I saw the initial sketches Bolívar created, along with the updated and final versions of the cover art for both the original and new release of Plague Birds. It's a good thing to oppose genAI slop. It's not good to attack artists and their human-created art. 6/
If you see elements in Marcela Bolívar's art that you think is AI, consider that her art -- like that of many other artists -- was used without her consent to train the AI slop machines. She created effects like the red glows on the cover before anyone could even use generative AI to do that. 5/
FYI to the world: The cover art for the new edition of Plague Birds is not AI generated. Two people messaged me asking, so I want to be clear the art is purely human created. Marcela Bolívar created the art for this cover and didn't use any AI at all. 1/

I should clarify that the new art for Plague Birds: The Red Day Edition was a variant cover Marcela Bolívar created for the book's original edition, released in late 2021. Apex Books didn't pick this art for the original edition, but we all thought it would be great to use it now. 7/
Final comment: I should have shared a link to all of Marcela Bolívar's art. Here it is. 8/ www.marcelabolivar.com
Your cover is gorgeous! I recognized Marcela Bolívar's incredible style from the cover of Wrath Goddess Sings, it's infuriating that AI slop has so thoroughly poisoned the well
