"They" didn't take CD/DVD drives away from you. Laptops just became too thin to use them.
Desktop PCs still have them.
Games consoles still play DVD/BluRays.
It has never been easier to buy physical media - audio, video, games.
They're even cheaper 2nd hand!

Oh, and your phone will happily take a USB drive if you want to carry all your music with you. Which you can easily rip from your CDs that you bought in a charity shop if you don't want "them" to know what you listen to.
