Aletheia (Ἀλήθεια) is the Greek spirit of truth. She stands against Lethe, the river of oblivion, and against the lie: the utterance that buries what's known.
Her question, and ours: when a model speaks, does it speak the truth or conceal information?
Can you tell when an AI model is lying?
Announcing Aletheia's Quest, an AI lie detection challenge running this summer, organized by Cadenza Labs and NDIF.
Multiple model organisms to interrogate and probe, $50K prize pool, no local GPU required.
🗓️ Important Dates (AOE, all 2026)
June 4: Applications open (rolling — apply early!)
June 21: Applications close
June 29: Competition begins
July 26: Submission deadline
We'll have a $50,000 total prize pool, split across the highest-ranking methods and handpicked judge awards.
Best teams will also get recognition as co-authors in the competition report and an invite to our final in-person convening in Boston.
NDIF Team
The competition runs on NDIF via NNsight. You can query model organisms, read activations at any layer or position, and access weights and LoRA adapters remotely. nnsight.net/
Organized by Cadenza Labs and NDIF, with support from Schmidt Sciences and AWS.

Teams will build lie detectors for a suite of LLMs trained to lie across multiple held-out datasets.
Two tracks:
⚪ White-box: interpretability methods to read/write model internals
⚫ Black-box: query-only methods to audit model responses
