Just finished Violet Allen's "Plastic, Prism, Void" and holy cats. One of the most formally ambitious books I've ever read: footnotes, nonlinear narrative, unreliable narrator, metafictional elements, & different fonts for different times, different narrators & even different functions of language.
Thought about this again because people are sometimes like "what do your tattoos mean" and i'm like "Well I bought a tattoo gun and then just doodled on myself whenever I got sad."
Add in a dose of "not really respecting my body very much" and "not expecting myself to live a lot longer" and there you go.
One thing I'd like to do if I ever had the disposable income for it is to do essentially a whole other layer of tattoos on top of these but make it all birds and nature
though "not having disposable income" is usually something I can count on
It's wild having at one point been so plugged into small press trans lit and now I feel like I barely know anything. I can't keep up!
Ultimately this is great though because it's really that there are just a wealth of trans books being published, which rules.
Doing better with that now but still living with a Lot of weird tattoos is sure an experience.
If yr a trans writer and I haven't read your book it's entirely because I haven't been able to keep up with my to-read list, not trying to snub anyone. The fact that I am able to regularly wrangle my attention span into reading anything at all has always felt like a victory.
to wound the autumnal kitty
Now that traditional book publishing has fully given up on good book cover art, it's easy to identify self published books because they actually look interesting.

🌈 Pride Month is about survival too. I’m a Black trans non-binary parent in Minnesota trying to relocate my child, cat, and myself to California for safety and stability. Every share helps. ko-fi.com/notyourbaesh...
