I’ve had this in the backlog for a minute. I held off on starting because I was waiting for this specific update.
"The Switch is so old," you all said. "I need better graphics," you demanded. "Wah wah," you cried. And now, you sit here before Slippy Toad, the slippiest he's ever been, slippier than a fucking banana peel under a kart wheel, all thanks to the raw power of the Nintendo Switch 2—and you reject him?
My first story for @theatlantic.com is about how ed tech slop is taking over American classrooms. Gift link: www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...
Incredible to invoke the “why don’t you try being nicer to the world’s biggest asshole?” question.
Sometimes it’s Metroid Prime or Wind Waker and fans were being dumb for no reason.
Sometimes it’s Metroid Other M and they were right to call out how weird it was. But this change in art style is VERY on brand for them trying to inject juice into a familiar series.
There is nothing more “Nintendo” than them saying “Fuck it, what if this was completely different from what it was like before?”
Mottoans! In case you haven’t heard the California episode of E Pluribus Motto, prospector Janet thinks you MaxFun Members are good as gold. Go support her and John Hodgman at Maximumfun.org/joinmotto!

Made this for @gofactyourpod.bsky.social’s live show this weekend at @laist.com. Go see it! And if you can’t make it, become a MaxFun member at maximumfun.org/joingofact — that’s where I’ll eventually showcase the funniest moments that didn’t make it onto the podcast.
