This sounds fascinating! Augustus Fitzroy, 3rd Duke, was one of the handful of Dukes who became Prime Minister (1766-70, followed by Lord North) but was also a fierce advocate for local Militia reform during the Seven Years War... I'll be hunting this article down 🙂

Along the entrance drive at Hardwick in Derbyshire, a new sculpture marks the site of the Polish Resettlement Camp. Many Allied Polish soldiers lived here during the post-war period from 1946 to 1960.
