Well, okay, Vienna. Just be dramatic.
I worked on this along with many other folks, and I hope the AI skeptical and curious alike will give it a read. It includes questions to ask yourself as you think about AI's role in your research process, ranging from accidental use to open engagement. We also have scenarios to work through.
In its sights
It is continuously shocking how the standard approach to understanding how LLM prompting works, by people who claim to be knowledgeable enthusiasts about LLMs, is as a form of prayer or ritual invocation, but they are convinced that it’s actually reasoning stuff like this out
Can ML agents make new ML models and agents? Yes absolutely and that's happening all the time right now. Is this useful? Absolutely not
IKEA didn't build renewable generation to power 1.47 million homes because politicians told them to. They did it because the economics stacked up. With much of the investment already paid off, savings of over half a billion USD per year on electricity costs, the fundamentals become hard to ignore.

It feels like AI is coming for us right now: its fuckwit face is there in so many things, but also, more incipiently, in the decisions companies who should have nothing to do with it are making. But people will always want something real. The resistance is in DIY. It's in doing bold, small stuff.

Just made a decision to put out my second short story collection in collaboration with a new small press. It's all done and will be published in autumn. More news very soon. No advance. No "branding". Brilliant cover art and editing that I'm paying for myself. UP THE FUCKING REVOLUTION.
Attempting a longer explanation... someone on social media was trying to convince me that we don't need to worry about LLM fabrications because we can all just "ask for confidence levels" constantly. I went to google to search for discussion of/research about this.
