Geolocation of Explosion in Kaung Tup, Myanmar on 31 May 2026
On 31 May 2026 there was as a massive explosion in Shan State, Myanmar near the border with China.
The explosion occurred near the town of Nam Hkan in the village of Kaung Tup [ကောင်းတပ်].
I’ve geolocated where the explosion occurred.

Following the screening, there will be a discussion with the film producer Gregg Butensky from Kirana Productions, with one of the key figures in the film, Thet Swe Win, joining online - moderated by Dr Annisa Sabrina Hartoto.
On 22 April 2026, the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague will screen the documentary Thabyay: Creative Resistance in Myanmar, which follows four democracy revolutionaries in Myanmar who are finding creative means to fight against the military junta.
