This really reflects a failure of storytelling/narrating (which I would distinguish from 'comms') combined with the government's inability (and PM in particular) to articulate who it is *for*, what values it stands for and to make the argument for what it is doing (and standing up to opponents).

The weirdest thing (having spent the morning writing about Belfast etc) is that this govt is presiding over falling crime, falling immigration, falling NHS waits…all the things you might’ve thought moved the dial. But it’s just exuding a sort of helplessness
