The size of the reelection victory of Kenneth Mejia (LA's left-wing city auditor) is very striking. He leads his challenger (who was endorsed by many prominent Dem officials) by more than 20%.
revisit @psfrench.bsky.social's great profile of him from years ago: boltsmag.org/los-angeles-...

Great feature from @boltsmag.org on how NYPD's civilian oversight board is...kinda not that.

"...sources said Trump & Miller started the Afrikaner program when it became clear that the federal courts weren’t going to let them abolish the resettlement program outright. “It was them saying ok, if you’re going to make us do this, then we’re just going to spend this money on white people."
I also spoke to Samy Feliz, the brother of Allan Feliz, who was killed by NYPD following a traffic stop that started because he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. An admin judge recommended Feliz's killer be fired - but NYPD leader Jessica Tisch kept him on the force, which she has the power to do.
Here's my original story–the first to report on the existence of the "fighting antisemitism" website.
Felony conspiracy is increasingly weaponized vs activists. Notably, no allegations of hate crimes or bias here–which is what made the website's claims so problematic.

Santa Clara DA Jeff Rosen brought 1 of the harshest cases vs. Palestine campus protesters–until a judge kicked him off the case for framing it as "fighting antisemitism" to his "AIPAC [email] list" in order to fundraise.
Today, Rosen is up for reelection for a 5th term:

I consulted two great new books for this one: former CCRB investigators Mac Muir and Greg Finch's book Cop Cop: Breaking the Fixed System of American Policing, and Stuart Schrader's Blue Power: How Police Organized to Protect and Serve Themselves
Also, I have a new piece on the ins and outs of New York's supposedly independent civilian review board – why the NYPD retains so much control over the process, and what Mamdani could do to demonstrate a real commitment to police accountability: boltsmag.org/nypd-civilia...
