100%. I have literally cut the scene that was the reason I wanted to write the story in the first place, because cutting it made the story better. It hurt like hell, but it made for a better narrative, which is the whole point.

"Kill your darlings" does not mean "delete everything that you, the author, enjoy, out of the manuscript".
That…would make for a really shitty book.
A more accurate phrase might be "*be prepared* to kill your darlings" …if that's what the book needs.
