Today we're hearing from Aimee, Senior Visitor Experience Officer for Chedworth Roman Villa, who says: "This Volunteers’ Week, we want to take a moment to recognise the people who help keep Chedworth Roman Villa running." 🧵
"Our volunteers are involved in every part of what we do—from conserving the site and caring for artefacts, to helping visitors connect with the past, guiding tours, supporting school groups, and offering a warm welcome."
Find out more about Viviana's community project at NT The Weir Garden in Herefordshire, James' project with Worthing Museum and Worthing Archaeological Society at Highdown in the South Downs, and David's project at Dolaucothi, the only known Roman gold-mining complex in Britain.
Back in March, we joined forces with @archaeologyuk.bsky.social for "An Evening with National Trust Archaeologists". Don't worry if you missed it, you can catch up now on their YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp5f...
"We feel very lucky to work alongside a team that cares so much about this place. Their contribution is constant, often understated, and essential and this feels like a good moment to say a proper thank you." #Volunteering #Archaeology #MosaicMonday
"Our Ranger volunteers play an equally vital role, looking after the grounds and ensuring the wider landscape is cared for just as much as the archaeology. They bring not just knowledge, but time, consistency, and a real willingness to get stuck in, on busy days and quiet ones alike."
"Quite simply, without them, we couldn’t open. We’ve been marking the week with a few well-earned thank-yous, including exclusive tours of Chedworth with the legend that is Roger Box, visits to Lodge Park, and a special afternoon tea here at the villa as part of our First Thursdays catch-up."
