It's sad to see Ardent shut down. Ardent was the most important and successful studio in Memphis, beginning in the late 1960s. I spent a lot of time there and have many fine memories. I loved that the studio and my hometown were a magnet for so many artists.

Lassie was pleased, and soon, Tom Waits, Amy Rigby, Rosita y Laura, NRBQ, Statler Brothers, George Gerdes, Rockpile, Beach Boys, Elton Britt, and Steppenwolf showed up, but everyone insisted on one thing: I had to open the show with Lassie’s Theme song, written by the great Les Baxter.

I was mulling over my 250th episode of Air-Conditioned, and Lassie showed up and yelped a few requests. As a result, The Velvet Underground, Jan & Dean, The Rutles, George Carlin, The Move, Randy Newman, Elvis Presley, Mothers of Invention, and Firesign Theatre somehow ended up in this pile.
