It's rare for me to like a fresh haircut before I've washed and styled it myself, but everything turned out right with this one!
I have a friend that I haven't seen in person in nearly 20 years, but when he messages me to say he's sending me a virtual hug, I actually feel the hug. It's pretty lovely.
I'm now considering the singalong potential for this song, and it is delightful. It could have easily adaptable verses and then I could ask people for their inconsequential problems.
My song lyrics do state that I have claims on physical territory that I can't possibly own. The colonialism thing isn't fully out to lunch.
The point is, yes, I don't shy away from the slimy, swampy elements of frogs, but there's also so much more here than adoration of amphibians. (4/4)
It has feminist themes: I learned most female frogs lack vocal chords, and that idea sent me to some interesting places. I also learned that in one species of frog where the female has vocal chords, she primarily uses her voice to encourage her partner while mating. Good heavens, what riches! (3/4)

I mentioned my forthcoming chapbook to my hair stylist today when we were covering "what's new since your last cut?". It turns out that just calling them "frog poems" is only enticing if you're already into frogs.

Fun news: I'm participating in the Open Mic Festival on July 4! I'm set to play around 12:00 noon on the Frank's Community Pub Stage.
