On average, sub-Arctic Fennoscandia sees up to two days of ‘strong’ heat stress per year. Last July there was almost two weeks of strong heat stress 🥵 heatwaves like this highlight the impacts of climate change and potential for hazardous heat in regions where it was historically rare or absent ⬇️
Heat stress 🥵 is increasing in Europe ⬇️
🌊In 2025, the European ocean region recorded a record high annual average sea surface temperature(SST), the 4th year in a row. The Mediterranean recorded its second-highest annual SST. A record 86% of the European region saw at least one day of ‘strong’ marine heatwave conditions. #CopernicusClimate
@rebeccalize.bsky.social, Senior Scientist @ecmwf.int, Lead Editor of #ESOTC2025, shares her perspective on the report. She reflects on the finding that surprised her most, the result that deserves closer attention & how the report can help everyone make sense of Europe’s changing climate. More ⬇️

In 2025, all European glacier regions saw a net mass loss, with Iceland recording its 2nd‑largest loss since 1976. It was the 4th year in a row that all 19 global glacier regions lost mass. More insight in #ESOTC2025 from #Copernicus Climate @ecmwf.int and @wmo-global.bsky.social ⬇️ #ClimateData
📈In 2025, at least 95% of Europe saw above‑average temperatures. 📉The area of Europe experiencing winter days with freezing temperatures is shrinking 🌡️and the continent saw its second most severe heatwave on record. 🔗 climate.copernicus.eu/esotc/2025/t... @ecmwf.int @wmo-global.bsky.social
