George Santos called me after my story revealing federal investigations into his suspected market manipulation on Kalshi.
And he said: "This story is going to get you a gun in your face."
Then he lied about it.

NPR reported on new federal investigations examining the former Congressman's bets on the prediction market site Kalshi. Then he threatened the NPR reporter who broke the story.
Unsurprisingly excellent piece from Ted Chiang about LLMs and particularly about Claude. Claude (or any other LLM) is not conscious or "intelligent" in the general understanding of the word, but if it were, then it would be, essentially, a slave.

Delighted that my @nature.com feature analysing the rise in autism is a finalist in the 2026 ABSW science writers' awards @absw.bsky.social alongside outstanding journalists @drmlharris.bsky.social, @chrisjparr.bsky.social & many more. A real honour!

had a conversation with a writer friend and we concluded that the worst thing that could happen as a result of AI text generation - the very worst - is if people lose the will to write; if we begin to believe that there is simply no need, no reason to try, and elect to stay mute
Taken to its logical conclusion, this line of thinking is absurd—and damning.
This is fascinating work. Did they get analytical advice from anyone with expertise in phylogenomics/viral evolution eg scientists developing @nextstrain.org @pathoplexus.org tools used?
