I would like to see this long-form dialogue in film criticism too. Too much energy wasted on microblogging dunks, no capacity left for well-argued essays.

I do think there could be more public debate and dialogue, more spirited exchanges of ideas about what it is we’re all doing here when we review games. Tevis Thompson made IMO a very stirring argument 13 years ago and really, not that much has changed since then. tevisthompson.com/on-videogame...
I wish games media wasn’t so anemic that we exclusively praise (or stay quiet), only criticizing or arguing when one’s words are objectively bad (like genuinely harmful).
I want more ppl to tell me I’m wrong & I want to tell you your review sucks & you to do the same & we all get better bc of it
